Morrissey

…was not a suedehead.

However, Morrissey did write a song called Suedehead so it’s not uncommon to find Morrissey fans arriving at this site. Morrissey is without doubt one of the finest lyricists the UK has ever produced. Morrissey’s enduring fanbase discuss every enigmatic topic in detail and even the BBC’s culture show declared Morrissey a living icon.

Morrissey has always been interested in British youth cults so to use the word ‘suedehead’ is no surprise. Morrissey quotes the names of the street gangsters in Graham Greene’s Brighton Rock on ‘Now my heart is full‘ and featured teddy boys on the sleeve of The Smiths ‘The World Won’t Listen‘ and a Vespa scooter on the reverse sleeve of ‘You’re the one for me fatty’. However it is probably the live performance with Madness at the original Madstock which did raise some eyebrows. Morrissey’s backdrop was two skinhead girls (see t-shirt pic) and he waved about the Union Jack. Earlier he acknowledged reading the Richard Allen novels in his youth and his fondness for the word Suedehead when NME interviewed Morrissey at the time Suedehead was released.
